Health Alert: Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), Confirmed Case of COVID-19 and Enhanced Screening Measures

Location:  Tanzania

Event:  On March 16, 2020, the Tanzanian Ministry of Health announced a confirmed case of COVID-19.  The ongoing global outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19) as identified in Wuhan, China, poses a very high public health threat.

 

The Government of Tanzania has implemented enhanced screening and quarantine measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19.  Travelers should be prepared for unexpected travel restrictions to be put into effect with little or no advance notice.  There are flight cancellations and increasingly limited flight availability.

Effective March 17, 2020 the U.S. Embassy Dar es Salaam has suspended routine consular services.  For emergency American Citizens Services, including emergency passports, please visit our website for additional information.

The Department of State has issued a Global Level 3 Health Advisory for COVID-19.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Level 2 Global COVID-19 Outbreak Notice.
