As a prominent emerging market with a robust tourism scene, India attracts international business travelers, tourist groups, students, and personnel with international development organizations—many of whom are OSAC constituents. While there are complex safety and security concerns with various degrees of impact on a particular city, transportation safety is a consistent aspect of security risk throughout India. Ailing infrastructure, heavy traffic, transportation strikes, theft, and assault are some examples of the risks associated with traveling inside India. Female travelers are particularly vulnerable, as reports of verbal and physical harassment as well as sexual attacks have been reported. OSAC constituents should be mindful and aware of the risks associated with utilizing different transportation options in India in order to adopt mitigating measures for a safe trip.
